Sidewalk Explosion

While visiting Wildwood Gardens, I saw a lone dandelion springing up in a crack, tenaciously defying the odds of its existence.  I knew immediately that I wanted to make a dandelion quilt.

The wild violets and the dandelion were made by thread-painting free-standing leaves and flowers.  I then appliquéd them onto the quilt.  I felted the whispy head of the dandelion and added crystals to highlight & add dimension to the seeds floating away on the breeze.  Then I felted moss onto the bricks to add even more dimension and realism. True to Mother Nature herself, everything on the quilt is actual size, including the jumbo-sized dandelion!
